writingtips2020

If possible do not start with the word THE. Why? It is so common. And you cannot think anymore of a new or creative way to start your story.

Once I was asked by my editor to pinchhit for a police reporter on vacation one Sunday. So I left my desk job for a while and write a story about a crime that happened inside a church in Tondo.
Most beat reporters started their story with usual way how a policeman makes a report.

One started it this way: The mass in a Tondo church last Sunday . . .another wrote it this way: The parish priest inside a church in Tondo . . .. But the veteran among them started this way:
When you go to church , do not pray with your eyes closed, or else this will happen to you...(then he narrated what transpired inside the church during a Sunday mass where a man held hostage a sakristan of the church in front of the churchgoers...see. Or you may write like this: Pray, but do not close your eyes.. .be creative.
